Hiawassee Excite

Located adjacent to the beautiful Crystal Lake Chatuge, sits the quaint and friendly community of Hiawassee, Georgia. Sitting on the Northeast corner of Georgia and right along the Western edges of North Carolina, the community embodies the beauty and heritage of Appalachia.

Blossoming with misty coves, refreshing lakes, rushing streams, and green forests, Hiawassee welcomes guests all year round. Visitors can spend all day on Crystal Lake Chatuge swimming, fishing, or boating and then eagerly watch as the sun dips below the horizon while sipping a cold one or watching their little ones play on the river banks. Life is just a little bit easier in Hiawassee.

Hiawassee sits inside Towns County, which spans a massive 170,000 square acres. Two-third of the county exist within the National Forest and various other federal holdings. The Lake that is the beacon for Towns County, Lake Chatuge, is fed by a crystal clear mountain stream. The result is one of the cleanest, most visited bodies of water in the southeast. With an average summer temperature of 84 degrees and a winter temperature of around 40 degrees, it also makes for great fishing. Spanning 7,500 acres and with a shoreline of 150 miles, there is plenty of room for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Recreation is aplenty, and in addition to fishing, boating, and swimming there is also hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, and golfing aplenty. Yearly events include the Campbell Folk School Festivals, and spring and Fall Music Festivals.

Not at all surprising, Hiawassee also has plenty of accommodations ranging from lake vacation rentals, weekend getaways, cabin rentals or even scenic blue mountain rentals. If you’d like to rent your own boating or camping gear, there are several tourist centric shops speckled across the shoreline.

Whether you come to this small mountain lake community to take in one of the annual events or to spend the day on the water, you will enjoy this quaint community and picturesque views.
